Yield to God, Resist the Devil
“Yield to God, resist the devil,”
This our watchword day and night;
Build no walls before the Spirit,
Leave no cracks for flesh to sight.
Yield to God – our hands and voices,
Minds and hearts and feet and love –
Ready for His gracious service,
Well prepared for work above.
Nothing kept from His dominion,
Nothing that we will not do –
Perfect yieldedness each moment,
“Lord, I love and follow You.”
But resist with steadfast effort
(Ever watchful as he lurks)
Satan and his evil partners
With their lusts and plans and works.
Do not give an inch of headway,
Take the shield of faith and stand;
Like a lion he is prowling
To devour on every hand.
Those who yield to God completely
And resist the devil’s lies
Find that God will fight him for us –
In God’s strength we will arise.
“Yield to God, resist the devil;”
Don’t grow weary – soon we’ll see
Satan crushed and Christ victorious
As we share His victory.

“Submit yourselves therefore to God.
Resist the devil,
and he will flee from you.”
James 4:7
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you in due time:
Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Whom resist stedfast in the faith,
knowing that the same afflictions
are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”
1 Peter 5:6-9
