Swift to Hear, Slow to Speak
“Be quick to hear and slow to speak.”
For every mouth God gave two ears.
The wise must learn to hold his tongue
While godly words he stops and hears.
My mouth is God’s, He made my tongue,
So all my words should show His grace.
His kindness shows me how to speak,
And truth must have an honored place.
No sharp replies or gossip fit;
A Christian’s lips must never lie.
My thoughts control the things I say
So I must watch my heart’s reply.
Lord, set a guard before my mouth
And help me keep my tongue, I pray,
So others know how good You are
When they have heard the things I say.
