I Live Because He Loves Me
Once I was poor and blinded,
I could not see the light;
A slave of sin and Satan
I loved the dark of night.
My steps were toward destruction,
I did not see the end,
I thought I was my master
And counted pride a friend.
But Jesus had compassion,
He saw my deepest need;
He died to buy my pardon
And rose to intercede.
He gave me sight and showed me
The beauty of His love;
His light came in and changed me
And set my heart above.
He pardoned, washed, renewed me,
He broke the chains of fear;
He gave His Word and promised
That He is always near.
With tenderness He changed me,
He healed and made me new,
He clothed me in salvation
And taught me what to do.
He gave me home and family,
He brought me hope and peace,
He wrote His law within me,
His pardon brought release.
He showed me death was conquered,
He gave me endless life,
He fitted me with armor
To triumph in the strife.
Now I am His forever –
My heart is His alone;
I live to bring Him honor
And make His gospel known.
His glory is my purpose,
His pleasure my reward.
I live because He loves me
My Savior and my Lord.
