I Can Hardly Wait
I only see a little way
Beyond the veil of tears
To where my Savior waits for me
Beyond these fleeting years.
But what I see is quite enough –
It makes me long to go
To where my Lord has made a home
Where joys forever flow.
The brightest things and loveliest
That grace this world today
Are but a glimpse of better things
That wait beyond the way.
And every tear and sigh for home
Provoked by loss or pain
Just helps me think of what will last
When all is turned to gain.
So though I see so small a view
Beyond the pearly gate,
I know my Christ is standing there
And I can hardly wait!

I am applying this beautiful biblical poem to two difficult times:
1. Just three days ago, while with Stephanie, I lost my friend in my hometown who was suffering from bone cancer. He was serving as a deacon in his church where my Dad used to pastor. There was a great sorrow among the members.
2. Chris is a son of my long time partner in the gospel ministries. He has been battling cancer and while we were very hopeful (including the doctor), he was going to make it, there was a sudden decline in his health within a couple of months our hope of Chris recovery is now turned into the hope for heaven and we are waiting for the inevitable praying that Chris will not have adverse pain.
What a blessing “I can hardly wait” has been to me, only eternity will reveal.
I’m sorry for the loss of your friend so recently. It sounds like he was a blessing to you and to many who will feel his absence deeply. May you see his witness living on in the members of his church.
Praying with you that Chris will not have much suffering in the coming days. And praying for you, your friend, and the whole family that the Lord be near with comfort, strength, and peace.
What a blessed gift that even in times of great sorrow, we have a confident hope, knowing what lies beyond this life – joy, glory, and most of all our dear Savior.
When I make sympathy cards from now on they will include this poem.
That’s a lovely idea! May the Lord use it to bring comfort and hope to those you write to.
