Lord, help me crucify the flesh
And let it have no space
To turn my soul away from you
Or block the path of grace.
Remove the pleasures it affords
That lure me from what’s right,
And change the things that I desire
To seek Your pure delight.
Awake in me a holy thirst
For righteousness and good,
Please help me love the things You love
And do what Jesus would.

My God, I come in humble awe
And thank You for Your love
So vast, so deep, so wonderful
It lifts my heart above.
That God Himself would come to earth
Rejected, tested, poor,
Then take my sin with all its shame
To open heaven’s door.
That Jesus Christ would bear my guilt
And wear it on the tree –
Unjustly lifted up to die
To show His love for me.

Lord, teach me to be teachable,
To love to learn and grow,
To willingly admit my need
And hear what others know.
Lord, show me how to listen well
(More often than I speak),
To care what others think and feel
Without pride’s sharp critique.
Lord, give me wisdom from above
That wants to be set right,
Accepts correction as a gift,
And seeks revealing light.

I’ve found a thing so grand and fine
It’s captured my attention,
A treasure worth my every thought
Which has my full affection.
The other things I used to love
All pale beneath its beauty,
And I have found another way
To judge life’s highest duty.
I’d trade the world for what I found,
Give up all other treasure,
For I possess a greater wealth
Than earthly minds can measure.

I’d like to visit heaven
For just a day or two,
Lay down my heavy burdens
And rest a little, too.
Be done with pain and sorrow
And shed this bent toward sin,
Find perfect peace and freedom
And boundless love within.
And most of all see Jesus,
My precious Friend and Lord,
Whose Word is my commission,
His smile my heart’s reward.

I have a mighty Champion
Who pleads the rights He won
Not for Himself but for my sake
Because of all He’s done.
He fought to buy these privileges –
He gave His life to gain
A glorious, bright inheritance
Through sorrow, shame, and pain.
He will not let the honors fade
For which He gave His life
Or let me have a partial share
Of what He won through strife.
