The Christmas Story

The Christmas Story

The Christmas Story

A godly girl and her betrothed
In Nazareth of old,
Both purposed they would honor God
And live for Him we’re told.

Then in the midst of normal life
An angel came to earth
To tell this virgin of the news
About the Savior’s birth.

So few believed her strange account
But John’s dear mother knew,
And from the glad Elizabeth
What strength and hope she drew.

The angel came to her betrothed
And told him of the child:
It’s God’s own Son come down to save,
His mother undefiled.

With joy and faith, yet knowing too
So few would understand,
When morning came he took his wife
To see what God had planned.

Then Caesar called another tax
And told them they must go
To where the family line began
So many years ago.

Perhaps they saw the way God worked
To make the Scriptures true,
Or maybe they were unaware
In all they had to do.

But either way God led them down
To David’s Bethlehem
Where prophets said that Christ would come
To save us from our sin.

A cattle stall was all they found
That day our Savior came;
A manger held the Son of God
Whom heaven’s hosts proclaim.

Those angels went to shepherds near
And told them not to fear
For Christ had come to give us peace
And bring God’s favor here.

When they were gone the shepherds said,
“Let’s go and see Him now!”
They came with haste and saw the child
To whom all knees will bow.

And when they’d seen, they spread the news
That God had come that night
For Christ the Lord was on our earth
To bring us hope and light.

The godly girl, a mother now,
Kept all within her heart,
And pondered what the Lord would do
Since this was just the start.

While shepherds went with joy and praise
To work another day,
Amazed and glad that God Himself
Would come in such a way.

How Far Did You Come?

How Far Did You Come?

How Far Did You Come?

How far did You come, Lord Jesus?
How far did You come for me?
Oh how far did it seem from Your throne to a barn,
To time from eternity?

How far did You come, Messiah?
How far did You come to live?
From bright heaven above to our struggles below
To pardon me and forgive.

How far did You come, Redeemer?
How far did You come to die?
From a crown to a cross, from sweet songs to such scorn
To make me a home on high.

How far did You come, my Savior?
How far did You come for me?
How amazing is love that would send you to earth
To save me and set me free!

Rediscovering Christmas

Rediscovering Christmas

Rediscovering Christmas

You’ve heard the Christmas story
A hundred times or more
And fewer brand-new facets
Invite you through their door,
So must the brightest wonder
All fade for you this year,
The charm of such a story
So marvelous and dear?

Discovery’s exciting
As one explores new ground
And opens up bright vistas
With truth that’s newly found,
But something that’s familiar
Has beauty all its own –
A precious, settled holding
To what’s already known.

For what’s the longest treasured
Most valuable remains;
And somehow all its sparkle
A well-loved jewel retains.
Though, if it’s long neglected,
The heart forgets its prize
And overlooks the beauty
That’s right before its eyes.

So take the time this Christmas
To think of what it means;
Awake your soul with interest
In all its varied scenes.
By glad pursuit rekindle
A passion from above
For Jesus Christ our Savior
In holy awe and love.

Wonder of Wonders

Wonder of Wonders

Wonder of Wonders

Wonder of wonders our God becomes man,
So humble and lowly fulfilling God’s plan.
Despising the glory and leaving His place,
He comes to redeem us in marvelous grace.

Wonder of wonders He comes here to earth,
The son of a virgin, a peasant by birth.
He comes in a stable, a manger His bed,
By those He created is nurtured and fed.

Wonder of wonders the world turns away –
No place for the Savior to come or to stay.
But angels tell shepherds who hurry to see,
And wisemen bring presents and come bend the knee.

Wonder of wonders He learns and He grows;
Immortal now mortal, our weakness He knows.
Though tempted like others, He lives without sin;
Still perfectly righteous and holy within.

Wonder of wonders the King is the Lamb,
Our perfect atonement the mighty I Am.
Our sin on His shoulders He carries and cries,
“It’s finished!” Our Maker and Sacrifice dies.

Wonder of wonders He rises again –
The grave cannot hold Him and death cannot win.
It’s shackles are broken by Jesus the Lord
Who offers salvation that all can afford.

Wonder of wonders the God-man still wears
The form of a servant with scars that He bears;
Ascending to heaven He sits on His throne
Still worthy of worship to save and atone.

Wonder of wonders the Savior appears
In splendor and glory to honor and cheers.
Now crowned and triumphant He’s coming again
Exalted forever and ever. Amen.

As Christmas Ends

As Christmas Ends

As Christmas Ends

As Christmastime is ending
With all its festive light,
The trees and all the tinsel
Will sleep a year-long night.

But joy and peace continue
With hope and grace and love;
Goodwill is still extended
From God who reigns above.

Nativities are hidden –
In attics boxed away,
But Jesus stays among us
To guide us day by day.

I love a month for Jesus
To celebrate His birth,
But all year round He’s with us –
That’s why He came to earth.

So as the new year beckons
And Christmas fades from view,
Let’s keep its joyful spirit
And worship all year through.

Imagine Christmas

Imagine Christmas

Imagine Christmas

Imagine being Joseph
And looking for a place
To house a pregnant mother
But finding there’s no space.

Imagine being Mary
And laying God’s own Son
Within a rough hewn manger
Wrapped tight in plain homespun.

Imagine you’re a shepherd
While angels gladly tell
That Christ is come to save us,
Our true Emmanuel.

Imagine you’re a wiseman
In search of heaven’s King
And see His childlike interest
In all the gifts you bring.

Imagine seeing Jesus
Who came here just for you
And let the well-known story
Bring joy that’s fresh and new.

Together on a Winter Night

Together on a Winter Night

Together on a Winter Night

There’s nothing like a winter night
Around a cozy fire,
While snowflakes fall you’re wrapped up tight
And form a family choir.

While laughter rings and each voice sings
The carols that we love,
We feel the joy that Christmas brings
When God came from above.

The tree-lights shine and every face
Is wreathed with festive smile;
Let cares begone as in their place
We gather for a while.

Let all the warmth of loving cheer
Bring happiness tonight,
For Christ has come and God is near
To fill our hearts with light.

A Birthday Gift for Jesus

A Birthday Gift for Jesus

A Birthday Gift for Jesus

What can I give to Jesus
For Christmastime this year –
A birthday gift for Someone
So holy, kind, and dear?

What’s on the Savior’s wish list
That I could choose to do
To show His love to others
And tell Him “I love You”?

Perhaps an act of kindness
In His behalf today
To bless a weary pilgrim
And help them on their way.

Or maybe time or treasure
That’s given in His Name
Would pass along His goodness
And showcase why He came.

Lord, help me think of something
To make Your birthday bright –
A birthday gift for Jesus
That brings You true delight.

Come See, The God of Heaven

Come See, The God of Heaven

Come, see! The God of heaven
Is walking on this earth;
The angels He created
Announce His humble birth.

Come, see! The God of heaven
Is healing blind and lame
And making friends of outcasts
Who call upon His Name.

Come, see! The God of heaven
Is dying on the tree –
The innocent found guilty
To pardon you and me.

Come, see! The God of heaven
Is rising from the grave
Exalted and triumphant
To prove His pow’r to save.

Come, see! The God of heaven
Ascending to His throne
To intercede forever
For those He calls His own.

Come, see! The God of heaven
Is coming back to reign
With all His saints who follow
Exultant in His train.

Come, see! The God of heaven
Is making all things new.
Our King and our Redeemer
We bring our praise to You!

A Christmas Invitation

A Christmas Invitation

A Christmas Invitation

The Christmas star is shining bright
To lead us to the place
Where Jesus came and lived with us
To save us by His grace.

The angels tell the joyful news
That Christ our Savior came
To offer peace to everyone
Who trusts His holy Name.

The shepherds call us all to come
And worship Him today,
To trust the One who came and died
To wash our sins away.

The Child Himself invites us each
To come so we’ll receive
His gift of love and endless life
For all who will believe.

So won’t you come and turn from sin
To trust in Christ alone?
He died and rose to save your soul
So you can be His own.
