Help Me Live for You

Help Me Live for You

Help Me Live for You

Lord, help me crucify the flesh
And let it have no space
To turn my soul away from you
Or block the path of grace.

Remove the pleasures sin affords
That lure from all that’s right,
And change the things that I desire
To seek Your pure delight.

Awake in me a holy thirst
For righteousness and good,
Please help me love the things You love
And do as Jesus would.

Where I’ve left room for fleshly lusts
And worldly things that fade,
Reveal my sin and help me turn
From where my soul has strayed.

Convict and cleanse, renew and bless,
Lord, help me live for You –
Sold out for Christ with no reserves
In love that’s pure and true.

Christina Joy Hommes

And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Galatians 5:24

Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Hebrews 11:25

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Romans 13:14

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24

Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen. Ephesians 6:24

His Rightful Praise

His Rightful Praise

His Rightful Praise

There’s no one like the Lord
In patience, love, and might,
In holiness and grace,
In truth and glorious light.
All things belong to Him
Because He made them all –
He holds it all in place
And guides them great and small.

Though angels all rejoiced
And every person sang,
Though birds and oceans joined
And all the heavens rang,
We still could never tell
The greatness of our God
Or rightly praise His worth
And spread His fame abroad.

All glory, blessing, strength,
All honor, love, and praise,
All majesty belongs
To God the King of days.
Eternal and unchanged,
The God of truth and light,
Our worship, thanks, and awe
Are His by sovereign right.

Thank You for Your Love

Thank You for Your Love

Thank You for Your Love

My God, I come in humble awe
And thank You for Your love
So vast, so deep, so wonderful
It lifts my heart above.

That God Himself would come to earth
Rejected, tested, poor,
Then take my sin with all its shame
To open heaven’s door.

That Jesus Christ would bear my guilt
And wear it on the tree –
Unjustly lifted up to die
To show His love for me.

That on the cross as darkness fell
And heaven turned away,
He gave Himself to pay my debt
To wash my sins away.

That three days on He broke the chains
That bound me to the grave –
He rose again to live and reign,
To pardon, rescue, save.

That when I was an enemy
He set His love on me
And sent His Spirit in my heart
To make these blind eyes see.

That when I came with nothing good
To offer at His throne,
He welcomed me with matchless grace
To take me as His own.

That though I sin and often fall
He loves me just the same
And lets me have a special part
To magnify His Name.

That when I’m weak and feeling low,
He proves His love indeed
With comfort, strength, and tender care
To meet my every need.

That in a world so marred by sin
He sends such pure delight
With blessings, gifts, provisions, too,
To bring me joy and light.

That someday soon He’ll take me home
To realms of endless love
Where He’s prepared a perfect place
To dwell with me above.

That endless years will never dull
The perfect joy we’ll share,
The oneness of eternal love
To which He’s made me heir.

Oh, what a love I see displayed
In all Your gracious ways!
Lord, help me love You more, I pray,
And lift eternal praise.

Teach Me to Be Teachable

Teach Me to Be Teachable

Teach Me to Be Teachable

Lord, teach me to be teachable,
To love to learn and grow,
To willingly admit my need
And hear what others know.

Lord, show me how to listen well
(More often than I speak),
To care what others think and feel
Without pride’s sharp critique.

Lord, give me wisdom from above
That wants to be set right,
Accepts correction as a gift,
And seeks revealing light.

Christina Joy Hommes

But the wisdom that is from above is…easy to be intreated. James 3:17

Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. Proverbs 9:8b-9

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: James 1:19

And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. John 3:19-21

But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. Ephesians 5:13

Whatever Lies Ahead

Whatever Lies Ahead

Whatever Lies Ahead

He’ll give me all the grace I need
For all that lies ahead,
And I can trust He’ll really do
The very thing He’s said.

Though I can see the coming storm
And hear the thunder roll,
I know I’m in my Father’s hand
And He will keep my soul.

Alone I’d never make it through,
But I am not alone
For God Himself is always near
And makes His strength my own.

I’ll never have tomorrow’s grace
Or face tomorrow’s need;
I’ll choose to trust Him for today
And let His goodness lead.

So when I see the wind and waves,
I’ll look to Christ instead,
For He has proved He’ll get me through
Whatever lies ahead.

A Gratitude Bouquet

A Gratitude Bouquet

A Gratitude Bouquet

The morning sun is up again
To greet a brand new day,
To show God’s praise from east to west
And chase the night away.

The little birds are all awake
And singing to the Lord,
Inviting all who hear their praise
To join each joyful chord.

The flowers, too, are open now
With colors fair and bright,
A silent witness to the care
Of God who gives them light.

I’d like to join the shining sun,
The singing birds today,
With thankful praise that shows God’s love –
A gratitude bouquet.

By Grace Not Works

By Grace Not Works

By Grace Not Works

My works can never save me
Or pay the debt I owe
To get me into heaven
Or wash me white as snow.

Each moment’s full allegiance
Belongs to God my King
And can’t make up for past ones –
There’s nothing spare to bring.

My best attempts are tainted,
My purest thoughts are flawed,
So on my own I’m helpless
To try to get to God.

But Jesus Christ my Savior
Came down to earth for me,
Completely pure and sinless
To set the guilty free.

He took my sinful record
As if it was His own
Then died to buy my pardon,
To rescue and atone.

He paid my debt completely,
Washed all my sin away,
And rose to give me access
To God’s eternal day.

There’s nothing I can give Him
To add to what He’s done –
He did it all and gives me
The freedom that He won.

I cannot earn or merit
This gift of love divine –
By grace alone He saved me
And made His mercy mine.

You Gave Me Strength

You Gave Me Strength

You Gave Me Strength

I cried to You in time of need,
You heard my earnest prayer –
From heaven’s height sent grace to help
And proved Your tender care.

You gave me strength when I was weak
Just like You said You would;
I couldn’t do what lay ahead,
But then I found You could.

So here I raise a song of thanks
And lift my heart in praise:
The Lord has done great things for me
And I will trust His ways.

To Him Who’s Overcome

To Him Who’s Overcome

To Him Who’s Overcome

To Him who’s overcome the world
And gives us hope and cheer,
To Him who crushed the bands of death
And freed us from its fear,

To Him who came and died for us
Then rose to live anew,
To Him who gives His life to us
To share His glory, too,

To Him whose love will never fade,
Whose grace will never end,
To Him who cares for every need
And lets us call Him Friend,

To Him who reigns forevermore
From heaven’s throne above,
To Him who’s worthy of our praise
With worship, honor, love,

To Him be glory in the heights
And songs of loudest praise,
To Him be love from every heart
Through all our endless days.

“I have overcome the world.” John 16:33b

At Christ’s Expense

At Christ’s Expense

At Christ’s Expense

At Christ’s expense my soul is free
From sin and guilt and shame;
He paid the price to pardon me –
All glory to His Name!

At Christ’s expense I now belong
As child of God and heir;
My Father’s love is vast and strong
And keeps me in His care.

At Christ’s expense I have a home
That He’s prepared for me;
He made the way for me to come
And offered me the key.

At Christ’s expense I have a song,
True hope, real joy, God’s peace,
And while the ages roll along
His praise will never cease.

At Christ’s expense though I was poor
God made me rich in grace,
And now in Christ forevermore
I’ll share my Savior’s place.

Christina Joy Hommes

“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9
