Living in Gratitude

I love the concept of living in gratitude! Ephesians 5:20 speaks of “giving thanks always for all things…” All things? Gratitude naturally follows joy-filled moments, but can we really be grateful at times when our world has turned upside down?

Dieter F. Uchtdorf’s words resonate with wisdom: “It might sound contrary to the wisdom of the world to suggest that one who is burdened with sorrow should give thanks to God. But those who set aside the bottle of bitterness and lift instead the goblet of gratitude can find a purifying drink of healing, peace, and understanding.”

I have found this to be true in my own experience. Restorative peace has filled me when I turned in gratitude to my Maker and asked Him to make something good of what I had previously experienced as only a tragedy or deep loss.

Choose gratitude! Gratitude can become a way of being which in turn keeps us connected to the heavens.  When we live in gratitude independent of our condition, it lifts us to a place of faith and trust in God. And that faith and trust leads to blessings—even amidst the storms of life.
